Survey Says Most Seniors Misinformed about Healthcare Reform

By Rick Banas of BMA Management, Ltd.

When it comes to the recent health care reform legislation that was enacted by Congress and approved by the President, a recent survey conducted by the National Council on Aging shows that most seniors are clearly confused.

The survey was conducted of more than 600 adults aged 65 and older.

  • Less than one in five seniors knew the answers to more than half of the questions that were asked about the new law.
  • Less than one in ten seniors knew the answers to at least two-thirds of the questions.
  • None of the seniors who participated in the survey were able to correctly answer all 12 questions about the legislation.

To help address the situation, the National Council on Aging has launched a “Straight Talk for Seniors on Health Reform” campaign.

Free webinars are available for Aging Services Professionals. A Fact Sheet on the Affordable Care Act and information in response to frequently asked questions also are available.

The NCOA also has posted a press release and a YouTube video that detail the results of the survey.
