Harry's Story

Originally from New York, Harry moved here 7 yrs ago after meeting a woman online.  The relationship did not work out which left Harry homeless for a bit.  For the past two years, he was living in another Senior Community in town where conditions are less than desirable.  After speaking over the phone, he promptly scheduled a tour and completed his reservation wait list immediately.  Prior to moving in Harry stated that he would need some help moving, because he could not do it alone and could not afford to pay moving professionals.  So, I pulled the $500 moving incentive from my back pocket and we were able to assist him with this.  He was “over the moon” excited and stopped in several days in a row unexpected just to say thanks and look around.  Finally, moving day arrived and they delivered what furniture and belongings Harry owned, including his extensive CD collection which he likes to share with everyone and talk about.  I stopped by that afternoon to see how things were going and Harry was sleeping in a folding camp chair and said he was napping from sheer exhaustion.  I realized then Harry did not have any comfortable furniture to sit in and he didn’t have a bed either.  I was able to locate some additional pieces of furniture from our storage and able to give Harry an automatic recliner, end table, bed, and dresser for his apartment.  He was absolutely beside himself and could not believe that we would be so generous and continued to question me why we were being so nice to him.  I told him, “Harry you live here with us now, so your like family”!  The next day, I came back to see how the furniture was working out for him.  He was sitting on the side of the bed looking around and said, “I never had bedroom furniture before”.  Harry continues to be grateful, thanking us every day, and often brings back chocolates for all the staff.  He is so happy to be here, has made many new friends, and is telling others about us.  Harry has most recently referred someone else from his previous community and now we are working to serve and help her.

Pete's Story: Proving Nothing's Impossible

Pete moved to Evergreen Village in October of 2020. Upon admission, Pete was ambulating independently, driving, completing ADLs independently, & in great shape overall.  In recent months, Pete started to complain of increasing dizziness, difficulties with balance, & back pain. The nursing services team referred Pete for therapy to the in-house therapy clinic. During his time with therapy Pete made great progress!  His goals for therapy were to decrease his dizziness, improve his balance and increase general safety with transfers. By the end of therapy, Pete met all of his goals; he did it in just 10 sessions! He is now free from his dizziness and once again is an integral part of Evergreen Village. He participates in many activities and runs the Country Store twice a week. We are so proud of Pete and to see him living his best life!

Abbie’s Story: Finding Independence Once More

Abbie Myers was referred to therapy upon admission to Evergreen Village with a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease, which caused a gradual decline in strength and function. She could no longer complete self-care tasks without assistance and was completely dependent upon her power wheelchair. Abbie completed a comprehensive therapy program including physical therapy and occupational therapy services.

Abbie’s progress during therapy was incredible! With strong perseverance toward meeting her goals, she is a whole new person! She is now walking with a cane around her apartment, can transfer into and out of vehicles for community travel, and is completing basic care tasks independently.

Abbie is a leader at Evergreen Village. She attends most group activities, has built solid friendships, and is an advocate for others. We are very proud of Abbie and her outstanding success!
