Patty & John’s Story: Together at Home

Patty has been a resident here since 11/21 due to health reasons. Patty is married to John. John stayed with their daughter for a short time until they realized Patty would need to be here at Cedar Grove for a long-term basis for care. John moved here December last year to be with his wife. The couple have been married for 66 years. They have 3 wonderful children and 2 grandchildren. They say this is as close to home living as they can get. We love the Patty and John.

Elladene & Haskell’s Story

The Elladene & Haskell lived in their beautiful home off Route 50 for several years when one day Haskell was not able to walk as he had been and he just wasn’t feeling like himself.  He was admitted to the hospital to be checked out by the doctor who diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease. Once he was released from the hospital, he was sent to the Willows Center for some rehabilitation. After receiving weeks of therapy, it was determined that he would need some assistance in his daily activities; therefore, their granddaughter Heather Rowan (whom they dearly love) made a decision to re-home them here at Cedar Grove Assisted Living. We love Elladene and Haskell so much we would not be complete without the two of them!!

Charles & Freda’s Story: Home Away From Home

Charles had a knee replacement surgery on June 6th, 2022 and then he was sent to Ohio Valley Health Care for rehabilitation. After approx. 6 days he was sent back to the hospital for other health issues he was having. While Charles was dealing with his health issues, Freda remained at home and ended up falling so she has been enjoying our Physical Therapy during her stay while Charles continues to see health specialist. They intend on going back home at some point.

Betty’s Story: Embracing Love From Her Cedar Grove Family

Moving to Cedar Grove has been life-changing for Betty.

Since moving in earlier this year, she has improved her balance by attending our exercise classes. Her overall health has improved – something she credits to the healthy meals we provide. Most telling of Betty’s happiness is how she has blossomed into an outgoing and confident resident here.

Betty tells everyone that she has finally found a place that feels like home.

Her family can enjoy all of the amenities and activities that Cedar Grove has to offer with her, and she is surrounded by love from other residents and our staff.

“I really like the place, especially my cat here with me, and it couldn’t feel more like home,” Betty said.

Fred’s Story: Regaining His Independence and Finding Home

Fred found his way to our community at a time when difficulties were mounting in his life.

At first, he wasn’t sure what moving to Cedar Grove would mean for him. There were so many uncertainties, but he quickly realized that the move was the best decision he could have made. Fred knew he had found a home with people who cared for him and could provide the assistance he needs to maintain his independence.

More than that, our community is giving Fred a chance to experience things he never thought he would, including forming connections and building special friendships.

He recalls the day another resident extended her hand and asked him to sit with her at lunch. They sat together that day, talking aimlessly, and almost every day since then, they’ve sat together for meals.

This was a small step toward helping Fred regain his dignity and start the next chapter in his life.

“I enjoy living here at Cedar Grove,’ he says. “It took me a little time to get used to it, but this is where I want and need to be.”
