In early November, we wrapped up our Prairie Winds Butterfly House Project!
These beautiful creatures came to us as teensy caterpillars via USPS mail, no bigger than a spec! With the help from gardeners in our local community and Country Arbors, we raised them until they developed chrysalises and became gorgeous adult butterflies.
Since it was a bit too cold to release them by the time they were ready, RSC Sierra Shaw designed and built a 6’ tall custom enclosure which allowed our residents to safely and individually interact with the butterflies, one at a time.
Did you know you can hand-feed Monarchs? They have tastebuds on their feet and will get quite comfy on a hand that’s been dipped in sugar water!
Joanne and Sharon especially enjoyed this unique experience. Can’t wait to plant more milkweed for next year’s caterkids!
Absolutely amazing. My mother in law resided at Prairie Winds. She passed last January 16th. I miss all of you and take care. I know Gina had everyone in her heart.
God Bless all
