Lacey Creek is lucky to have great friends at the Downers Grove Public Library.
Each month, Suzy, a librarian from the adult and teen services department, delivers books, DVDs, and audiobooks and other materials to residents who are signed up for their home delivery service. The residents meet with Suzy to talk about what authors or genres they are interested in, and Suzy personally picks out items she thinks the residents will enjoy based on what they have chatted about, and she also fills requests for a certain book or movie when residents request them. Many movies we show in our theater also come from the library, and Suzy delivers them to our Resident Services Coordinator Lauren Krokson.
Suzy also nominated us to receive a Satellite Stacks bookshelf that is here permanently in our community. Our home delivery service can only accommodate a set number of residents due to the time it takes Suzy to curate each resident’s monthly delivery, so the Satellite Stacks are a wonderful way to extend the library’s service to more residents. The Satellite Stacks bookshelf is located in our lounge, and is filled with large print books and audiobooks for residents to borrow. There aren’t any due dates or official check-out procedures; residents are free to take what they’re interested in and return the items when they are finished. Suzy checks the stacks periodically and changes out the books, so there are new titles available.
Another great service Lacey Creek residents enjoy from the library is our bi-monthly Tech Sessions. Lauren from the computer help desk at the library comes in (sometimes with another employee as well, depending on how many residents sign up for sessions) and holds individual 30-minute sessions with residents who need help with their cell phones, laptops, tablets, e-readers or other technology. Learning and using technology can be harder for seniors, and Lauren does a wonderful job walking them through how to install apps, set up email accounts, retrieve voicemails and more.
Our residents appreciate all the hard work the employees at the library do for us!
