Heritage Woods of Rockford is fortunate to have a wonderful group of people who volunteer their time at our community.

It doesn’t matter how young or old someone is, they still have something valuable to share with us.

One of our youngest groups of volunteers is from Harlem High School, and residents look forward to their visits each month.

Some students offer companionship while playing Checkers, UNO and other games.

Others pamper Heritage Woods residents by treating them to manicures. Each resident has her own file and nail polish color that has been set aside just for her — and they all say this special treatment makes them feel like they are getting the star treatment.

These visits are a win-win for both the students and residents. It helps the students learn how to give back to their community and build relationships with others while residents enjoy the social interaction and great company.
