Heritage Woods of Plainfield held our first First Responder BBQ on Sept. 11, and it was a huge success.

We wanted to show our appreciation to all our first responders in our area. That day, we had more than 25 police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians attend our lunch along with Illinois State Representative Mark Batanick.

Our culinary department cooked up an awesome meal complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, steak sandwiches, corn on the cob, a variety of salads, baked beans and dessert. It was delicious, and there were not any leftovers.

All of the residents enjoyed visiting with the first responders. Some residents wanted to take pictures with them, too, and they were kind enough to oblige. Many residents and staff were able to express their gratitude for all of the services that first responders provided.  We also had a moment of silence to commemorate September 11, 2001 and reflected on what that day meant to each and every one of us.

Thank you again to all of the first responders for coming to our community. We are looking forward to hosting them again next year.
