Frank and Shirley's Story

Frank, a former firefighter from Chicago, and Shirley, originally from New York, and a former local Director for a victim’s advocacy organization, met 11 years ago and have been a match made in heaven ever since. Over 5 years ago, Shirley was diagnosed with Lymphoma and went through numerous rounds of chemotherapy and other treatments to fight off her aggressive cancer. This diagnosis, along with Frank’s battle with Parkinson’s forced them to downsize from their home into a smaller apartment. After a short time in a regular apartment complex, they began to feel isolated and didn’t have a lot of friends and family around them. They knew they needed a community that provided more support, along with opportunities to engage and socialize with others.

Shirley’s granddaughter took her to see Heritage Woods of Noblesville and she knew it was the perfect place for her and Frank. Located within a mile of her daughter and grandkids, it was perfectly equipped with all the necessary accessibility features and amenities they were looking for.

Heritage Woods of Noblesville became home to Frank & Shirley exactly two years ago this March. They are very active in numerous events and activity programs including weekly Bingo, Dominoes, and Bible Study, which is led by their very own Lutheran Church Pastor. Shirley served as the President of the Resident Council this past year and has played a huge role in developing the Resident Ambassador program, along with the “Caught in the Act” Resident of the Month award. They have made many meaningful friendships with other residents and have built strong relationships with several staff members.

They most look forward to the holiday parties and special events held each month, including the quarterly Family Nights, in which they invite their loved ones over for a special dinner and party.

The feelings of comfort and safety are what comes to mind when asked what is so special to them about living at Heritage Woods. With Shirley’s cancer now in remission, they have returned to their active lifestyle they once knew. They feel like family here and look forward to many more wonderful years together in their beautiful, assisted living community.

Getting Stronger all Thanks to Heritage Woods!

Judy moved to Heritage Woods of Noblesville back in August 2023, and immediately began therapy services to improve her mobility, strength, and endurance. Prior to moving here, she struggled navigating her third floor apartment and maintaining her independence was a challenge. Judy recently achieved all of her therapy goals and was able to graduate from therapy services. She is now focused on forming new relationships, in which she can often be found in the activities room for Bingo or crafts, or in the dining room for meals. She plans to continue her exercise routine to maintain the gains that she has achieved in therapy. Judy recently stated, “I don’t know what I expected when I came here, but everything has really been just perfect! I’m glad I did it and I’m kind of proud of myself for what I did with PT.” We absolutely love sharing our Resident success stories, and we are so proud of her for all of her hard work and positive progress!
