It all started when Heritage Woods Administrator Alex Haughee and Marketing Director Jen Stark went to a skilled nursing and a supportive living meeting at Elder Care Services in DeKalb. Jen asked if there were any clothing drives for seniors in the area. The Elder Care director said there is no clothing drive for them, but that would be a great idea. Less than 5 days later, Heritage Woods of DeKalb put together a drive.
Heritage Woods of DeKalb launched the first ever campaign to collect warm clothing and accessories for DeKalb County seniors in need. The community rallied behind the efforts with over 15 drop off locations and even received support from DeKalb County and local politicians. All proceeds will benefit seniors who utilize assistance through Elder Care Services of DeKalb County.
The collections have been pouring in by the bag fulls, and we couldn’t be more ecstatic about it!
Many locations quickly called and said their boxes were already filled just days into the clothing drive. With the campaign not ending until December 4th and with all of the donations that we have collected already, we decided we better start now with sorting the clothing by gender and size. Boxes are being filled and stacked to the ceiling.
It warms our hearts to see how successful this first-time campaign has been. We hope to continue this clothing drive for years to come.
