Residents of Heritage Woods of Charleston kicked off their summer with a pontoon boat ride at Mill Creek Lake and Park in Marshall, Ill.

They were able to enjoy the fresh breeze while socializing with their friends. During their hour out on the water, the tour guide told them history about the lake. Most of the time, they can spot an eagle around its nest. After the ride, residents were able to enjoy a sub sandwich picnic under the pavilion.

“The boat rides are fun and really relaxing. I like to go any place that is similar to the boat ride,” said Heritage Woods resident Judy Miller. “(Our activity director) to likes to take us places that are relaxing and enjoyable.”

Joyce Baker, who organizes activities for the community, agreed.

“It’s nice seeing them able to get out and relax on the water,” she said. “Most grew up camping and boating with their families. They always reflect back on that time when they’re out on the boat.”

The boat rides run from May to October depending on the weather. On Wednesdays, Mill Creek offers boat rides and lunch for seniors. The cost is $10 for the boat ride and picnic. To schedule a boat ride and lunch, you can call Mill Creek at 217-889-3901.
