Honor to the soldier and the sailor everywhere who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause. – Abraham Lincoln
Earlier this month, Grand Prairie of Macomb hosted a breakfast in honor of all veterans. The breakfast was open to the public and free to all veterans and their families who live in the Macomb community along with the veterans of Grand Prairie.
A delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and sausage was catered by our local Hy-Vee store and served by Grand Prairie staff.
More than 20 veterans and their family members enjoyed a morning of food and fellowship while visiting with others who have served our country.
On Veterans Day, we took Grand Prairie residents who wanted to go out – despite the cold, snowy weather – to Hy-vee. The store hosted a free breakfast in honor of the holiday. The Macomb Police Department gave all communities in town that have veterans residing there a police escort to the breakfast. The mayor was waiting to greet them and thank them for their service. There was a fantastic turnout for the event.
It is so heartwarming to know our small community can come together to honor our veterans in such a wonderful way for all they have done for us.
