Finding Love at Heritage Woods

Sandy has lived at Heritage Woods for almost 6 years. She grew up in the Cicero/ Berwyn area. She worked in an office when she was younger. She got married and raised one daughter. Sandy has one grandson who she describes as one of the greatest accomplishment in her life.

Sandy is an avid reader and is often seen reading a book in one of the common areas. Her favorite author is Harper Lee who is best known for To Kill a Mockingbird.

After being married and then divorced, she never imagined she would ever find love again. Sandy not only made all types of new friendships, but she also even met the love of her life here! She says that meeting Rick has been one of the highlights of her life. They are often seen walking hand in hand around the community.

“The residents and staff here have become like extended family members,”  she says. Her favorite thing about living here is the other residents. She has made many new friendships since she moved in here. She enjoys playing Bingo and Charades. She says Maria, our Resident Service Coordinator, makes everything so fun! She also likes doing crafts and attending daily reflections every morning. “It’s a great way to start the day,” she says.

She worked at Marshall Field’s in Orland Park for about 20 years before she retired. She didn’t start working till her daughter turned 21 years old. She worked in many different departments there from children’s clothing to women’s coats.

Before moving here, she loved to garden and canned all types of vegetables every season. Sandy is a big animal lover too and she was raised around horses, cattle, chickens and rabbits.

Sandy is a quiet, unassuming lady who is always smiling and upbeat.  She is just one of our many residents who call Heritage Woods home.

Pat’s Story: Regaining Her Independence

Pat has only lived at Heritage Woods of Plainfield for a short time, but has already made great friends here. Pat loves to cook, and recently came across an old recipe book while unpacking her items. She said, “the book is well over 50 years old and thought it was gone forever.” Along with cooking, she enjoys sewing, reading, and gardening.

Pat likes attending our Daily Reflections group and looks forward to attending it everyday. She was married but became a widow over 25 years ago. She raised 3 children; two boys and one girl who she sadly outlived.

Pat was a registered nurse for 53 years. She worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabs. Like most first responders, she is very humble and kind. She is a quiet, unassuming lady who downplays her position as a nurse where she saved many lives and comforted those who were ill. She is used to taking care of others, but now it is her turn to sit back, relax, and let Heritage Woods of Plainfield take care of her.
