Four on the Floor Takes Silver in Statewide Spelling Bee

The Four on the Floor team of residents from Cambridge House of Maryville buzzed to a Second Place finish in the 2013 Affordable Assisted Living Coalition's statewide Spelling Bee.More than 100 teams of residents from affordable assisted living communities located throughout Illinois had entered the competition. All of the communities operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program.Four of the Floor was one of the 12 teams that qualified to compete in the Spelling Bee Finals that were held on May 14 and 15 at the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center in Decatur, Illinois.For the finals, the most frequently used words in the Scripps National Spelling Bee were used, and standard spelling bee rules were followed. Judges gave a team a word to spell, and the team had two minutes to work together to agree on a spelling. They could ask the judges to repeat the word, for the definition, and to use the word in a sentence. One member of the team needed to spell the word for the judges. One wrong letter and the team was out.Cambridge House of Maryville residents Eldora Chadwick, Paula Creek and Glenna Stewart brought home the Second Place Trophy and Medals.
