Last week, I had the opportunity to see firsthand one of the benefits to residents of living in an assisted living community.
I attended the resident and family Christmas party at Heritage Woods of Minooka, one of the more than 40 affordable assisted living communities that Gardant manages in Illinois.
Outside, the winds were frightful, howling steadily at more than 30 miles an hour out of the northwest. Temperatures were in the mid-30s.
Inside, the atmosphere was delightful, with residents gathering together in the dining room. Many were joined by their sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
They enjoyed cookies and cakes; coffee and punch; conversation and social connectivity.
They enjoyed the performance of a children’s choir and then a sing-along, lending their voices to such Christmas favorites as “Silent Night”, “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells”.
All without ever having to venture outdoors. All within the comfort of their home.
